Extend work hours when the power is out

#EdPro

UPS are uninterruptible power supplies that will help you keep your computer and other devices running for a certain period of time after a power outage.

How the UPS works

First, you connect the uninterruptible power supply to the mains, from which it is charged in a similar way to a conventional power bank. Only then you do connect your PC to it.

The UPS can not only ensure your stable working activity for several hours but also acts as a kind of shield for the computer in case of sudden voltage surges. This is quite relevant in conditions of unstable power supply and the need to protect your own device. The process of supply regulation takes place with the help of an inverter, which converts the voltage to the required value.

The main parameters by which UPS are distributed are:

  • Battery capacity. This indicator is responsible for the time that your computer can still work.

  • Output power. This criterion is very variable because it determines whether the UPS can power your device. For example, such video cards as Nvidia consume quite a lot of resources, and therefore the UPS will need to be chosen with high output power.

  • Ability to connect additional batteries.

  • The number of devices that can be connected to one UPS.

  • The speed of switching to internal batteries.

  • The voltage range that the UPS is able to stabilize.

  • The volume of the sound signal that can be heard during a power outage.

Although they will not be able to replace the main power grid and their power fully cannot be correlated with that of the generator. Still, UPS will certainly be useful to you in order to have more time to work with your PC even in emergency conditions.
