Closer to the Meta-universe

#EdPro

In October 2021, the world witnessed a major rebranding of Mark Zuckerberg's company, now called «Meta».

Although everything remained the same in the well-known social networks: Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, and Messenger, which are subordinate to the corporation, despite this, the cardinal update of the previous Facebook is due to a change in the course of the company itself. The renaming is because the previous name did not answer and did not cover the whole spectrum of what such a large-scale corporation brings together.

The new name will be one step toward the development of a new universe that will go far beyond social networks. The virtual universe will act as a platform where people can communicate and work, communicate and have fun from anywhere in the world using a virtual reality headset device.

Zuckerberg expects that within 10 years his meta world will have over ten million participants and it will become not just a unique space, but a well-ordered ecosystem where everyone can develop skills, work, and engage in hobbies.

Of course, so far this is quite a large-scale idea that Meta is working on, but we should not forget that once upon a time fantasy books described robots, something similar to the Internet, and a lot of other things that have now become more than commonplace for us.

At the moment, Meta is not the only company developing unique ways to realize this idea.

Sony recently patented a camera that transfers objects into virtual space.

A camera with a 3D scanner function can be used to scan and move images of real-life things into an abstract space to interact with them over time. The transfer will be done with the ability to scan the object 360°.

So far it is only a concept, so it is not known whether Sony aims to create this gadget and offer it to the world.

So, as we can see, today companies are already testing and implementing ways to build a meta-universe.

In this context, it is no longer possible to use the word «sci-fi», «future» would be more appropriate.

«Will we witness this unique scientific breakthrough?» – is a different question altogether.
