What do solar panels and clothes have in common?

#EdPro

Green energy sources have long gained a foothold in the international market. Everyone knows about wind turbines and solar panels, which are increasingly being used by businesses to replace gas and oil. More and more people are starting to produce electricity "the natural way," with the help of alternative energy sources.

What would happen if electricity could be extracted from the human body? Scientists at the University of California, San Diego are interested in this question. They invented a unique shirt that produces electricity from human movements and even from sweat.

Well, soon the usual fitness suit will go out of fashion, it will be replaced by smart clothes, which will supply energy to smart watches and fitness bracelets. That way, you'll never forget to charge your device, all you have to do is attach it to your arm.

Clothing Testing

  • For 10 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes of rest, the small electronic watch with an LCD display charged fully.

  • After refinement, the energy storage rate improved dramatically. The shirt could charge smart watches and gadgets that measure the number of steps.

In the near future, scientists plan to improve the energy extraction technology to make it convenient for people who lead sedentary lifestyles.

We wonder how it works and looks, let's figure it out:

  • The shirt is made of a microgrid that consists of biofuel cells that are charged by sweat.

  • Equipped with triboelectric generators that store stored energy.

  • All parts are easy to bend and are waterproof. But, unfortunately, these clothes can not be washed with soap, only - in clean water.

  • During movement, the hands of the person are loosened, the parts of the fabric rub against each other. This generates high voltage pulses, which enter the capacitor.
